Certified InstallerSarasota sits on fine sand over a shallow water table. Sand drains fast but does not hold shape on its own: under a car tyre it shifts unless it is confined and compacted in lifts. That is why a driveway here looks fine for a season and then ruts where the wheels track — the base was graded, not built.
The detail that changes here: On the barrier islands and west of the Trail we add a marine-grade joint compound and stainless or concrete edge restraint. Standard polymeric sand and steel spikes do not last against wind-blown sand and salt.

Materials
Travertine is beautiful on a pool deck, but it is too soft and porous for tyres in Florida heat — so it is not on this list.
No sealing, no fading, no oil stains
Non-porous, so oil, rust and tyre rubber stay on the surface and rinse off. Colour does not fade in Florida sun. Always 3CM (1¼ in) for vehicles — 2CM is for pool decks and patios — and mortar-set on a concrete base.

On Siesta Key, Lido Key and along the bay, salt air attacks joints and unsealed concrete pavers first. Porcelain is the honest answer there: it is non-porous and never needs sealing.
Driveways that connect to a county road usually need a right-of-way permit for the apron. We tell you at the estimate whether yours does.

Excavate for a vehicle-rated base, then compact crushed stone in lifts over geotextile.
Concrete or anchored restraint on every edge, so pavers cannot creep outward under tyres.
Herringbone 45° for vehicle areas, clean wet-saw cuts and no lippage between pavers.
Polymeric or marine-grade joint compound, final cleaning and a walkthrough with you.

Questions
It depends on the material, the size, what has to be removed and the base your soil needs. Concrete pavers cost the least per square foot, clay brick sits in the middle and 3CM porcelain is the premium option. We price after measuring on site, and the written estimate lists the paver, thickness, base depth, pattern, edge restraint and joint compound line by line.
Often, yes — especially when the driveway apron meets a county or city road, where a right-of-way permit is typical. HOA communities also need architectural review approval before work starts. We check both at the estimate so the job does not stop halfway.
Porcelain. 3CM porcelain carries vehicle loads, does not absorb oil and never needs sealing. Travertine is beautiful on a pool deck, but under tyres in Florida heat it chips, spalls and soaks up oil, so we do not recommend it for driveways.
A typical single-car driveway takes two to four working days; a double driveway with demolition takes three to five. Afternoon storms in summer are the main variable, and we tell you the schedule up front.

Highly recommend EC Pavers. Diogo is great to work with and his crew is fast and very detailed. They completed a large project around our pool using 3cm ceramic pavers and mosaic tiles wrapping the spa and waterline of the pool. A few months later, they came back to do the driveway also in the same ceramic pavers. The work was done promptly and everything was handled in a professional and efficient manner. Diogo has come back a few times to take care of minor items and is always available to address any concerns. I’m very happy with the work and highly recommend them to anyone.
