Best Pool Deck Materials for Florida Heat
Not all pool deck surfaces survive a Florida summer. Here are the materials that stay cool underfoot and hold up to relentless UV, humidity and salt.
The single biggest complaint about Florida pool decks is heat — a surface that burns bare feet by 11am is unusable half the year. The right material solves that.
Porcelain pavers run up to 30% cooler than poured concrete and shrug off UV without fading. Light-colored travertine and shell stone also stay cool thanks to their density and reflectivity.
What to avoid: dark concrete, dark natural stone, and anything with a smooth, non-textured finish around water. Slip resistance is as important as temperature.
Whatever you choose, drainage and base preparation determine whether it lasts. A cool surface on a poor base still fails — the certified standard exists for exactly this reason.
