The credential is checkable, the base is specifiable, and the failures are predictable. Here is how to tell a real bid from a cheap one before you sign.
Every homeowner comparing paver quotes is looking at the same photographs and broadly the same materials. What actually differs between the bids is invisible: how deep the base goes, whether it is compacted in lifts to a measured density, whether a separation layer was included, and where the water is designed to leave.
That work is buried within hours of being finished and nobody can inspect it afterwards — which is precisely why it is where a low bid finds its savings. The surface looks identical at handover. It behaves completely differently in year three.
So the question is not which contractor has the nicer portfolio. It is which one will still be right when the part you cannot see starts carrying load.

A contractor who never gets called back to fix a failure never learns what failure looks like from the inside. Opening someone else's under-built base is the most direct education available in this trade — and it is why our own installations get built the way they do.
We design the layout and drainage, build the base, install the surface, and repair failures — including work we did not install.
Questions
Look the license number up on the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation portal, which shows current status, expiration and any disciplinary history. Do not accept a card or a website badge as proof — verify the number yourself. Contractor classifications are defined under Florida Statute §489.
The DBPR cannot process a complaint on your behalf against an unlicensed person, so you have no regulatory recourse if the work is substandard. In the eyes of the law, hiring an unlicensed worker also makes you the general contractor on your own property — responsible for permits, code compliance and injuries that occur during the work.
The CMHA credential — formerly ICPI — requires a two-day intensive course on installation best practices, a passing exam, and a documented minimum of five completed projects totaling at least 10,000 square feet. It is valid for two years and requires eight hours of continuing education to renew, so a lapsed contractor loses it.
Almost always because of what is under the surface. Base depth, aggregate type, compaction standard and drainage are invisible four hours after they are finished and are where a low bid finds its savings. The published standard is 95% standard Proctor density per ASTM D698, with base surface tolerance of plus or minus three-eighths of an inch over a ten-foot straight edge. A quote that does not name those numbers is not quoting the same job.
Yes. Manufacturer warranties are conditional on installation following published CMHA or manufacturer guidelines, and installation outside those guidelines voids coverage. Even an intact warranty typically covers the cost of the product only — not the labor to remove the failed field, rebuild the base and reinstall.
Yes, and it is a significant part of what we do. We assess the base before quoting so you get a straight answer on whether the problem is localized or field-wide — including when the honest answer is that a repair will not hold.

We found EC Paver Solutions via our porcelain paver manufacturer and hired them to do a repair of our porcelain paver driveway that was installed in July of 2024. It was installed by a crew that I was told were trained in installing this product. They were not. For the better part of 2 years we struggled with several other supposed paver sub-contractors who could never get it right. Today we’ve finally got the driveway we wanted. Highly recommend EC Pavers. Diogo is great to work with and his crew is fast and very detailed. They completed a large project around our pool using 3cm ceramic pavers and mosaic tiles wrapping the spa and waterline of the pool. A few months later, they came back to do the driveway also in the same ceramic pavers. The work was done promptly and everything was handled in a professional and efficient manner. Diogo has come back a few times to take care of minor items and is always available to address any concerns. I’m very happy with the work and highly recommend them to anyone.
